In case you haven’t heard: Free Music Archive is winding down its work due to insufficient funding. This makes me incredibly sad and is a reminder of how hard it is to fund non-proprietary media projects online. It’s also honestly a bit of a monkey wrench in my life as a media maker.

I’m grateful to report that FMA seems to have a good plan for saving their collection via the Internet Archive, but the news nevertheless sent me scurrying to archive for myself as much work by my favorite artists as possible.

This track, “Full of Stars” by Philipp Weigl, jumped out at me as a promising addition to my morning prayer playlist.

RELATED PRAYERS

Both of these leapt right to mind at the mention of “Full of Stars.”

The Song of Zechariah / Benedictus Dominus Deus (BCP, Public Domain)

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel; *
he has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty savior, *
born of the house of his servant David.
Through his holy prophets he promised of old,
that he would save us from our enemies, *
from the hands of all who hate us.
He promised to show mercy to our fathers *
and to remember his holy covenant.
This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham, *
to set us free from the hands of our enemies,
Free to worship him without fear, *
holy and righteous in his sight
all the days of our life.
You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High, *
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
To give his people knowledge of salvation *
by the forgiveness of their sins.
In the tender compassion of our God *
the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
To shine on those who dwell in darkness and the
shadow of death, *
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: *
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

From the Exsultet (BCP, Public Domain)

Holy Father, accept our evening sacrifice, the offering of this
candle in your honor. May it shine continually to drive away
all darkness. May Christ, the Morning Star who knows no
setting, find it ever burning–he who gives his light to all
creation, and who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.

Clay Oil Lamp

This isn’t the exact model I have (mine’s from Taizé), but I’ve really been appreciating lighting a lamp when I pray each morning.
