There’s so much to love about this image.

  • It’s straight-up lovely.
  • It’s a digital oil painting, which is cool and I think pretty impressive.
  • It’s a remix of this Creative Commons-licensed photo, so it’s certainly in line with the spirit of our site.
  • It’s title is a reference to a Thelonious Monk tune, so you just know Mr. Pederson is a man of taste and distinction.

Prayers in Public posts are media that capture intentions offered and/or the process of offering them. While Creative Commons Prayer is primarily a Christian site, Prayers in Public posts give us the chance to be inspired by the devotion of people of all faiths.

The Genesee Diary: Report from a Trappist Monastery by Henri Nouwen

This book is my constant companion on retreats and quiet days. A glimpse into a truly formative experience for a spiritual writer loved (and fed) by millions.

Solo Monk by Thelonious Monk

This album doesn’t include “Blue Monk,” but it’s a must for any jazz fan and, I think, a nice way into Monk’s music if you’ve found him a little opaque in other settings. Includes my favorite recording of what may, in fact, be my favorite song ever: the incomparable “Ruby, My Dear.”
